"New Girl" (Tue., 9 p.m. EST on Fox) went with a very simple story this week, focusing more attention on developing the camaraderie of the gang and their relationships and personalities. After Jess tackled Nick during a football game, he wound up going to her friend, who's an OB/GYN. Nevertheless, she was able to diagnose a concerning growth on his thyroid. So she scheduled an ultrasound to check it out for the next morning.
The bulk of the episode then was the night before his ultrasound, as everyone reacted to the news. There were tears, from all three roommates, and a realization that Nick doesn't do things when he doesn't already know the outcome. Because of this, he's missed out on a lot of great opportunities.
Empowered by the pills he'd been taking for his back pain, that are prescribed for painful menstruation, Nick decided to run into the ocean in the middle of the night -- a decision he immediately regretted. The gang then bonded and enjoyed an unexpected night on the beach before heading in and finding out that Nick's fine.
But while Nick came out of the episode unscathed, it marked the first and last appearance of Winston's truck, which has to go down as one of the most pathetic looking vehicles on television.
