TeamSk8_Synergy

Nineteen local roller figure skaters have qualified to compete in precision, figures, loops, freestyle, pairs and creative events at the 2012 USA Roller Sports Figure Skating National Championships to be held in Lincoln, Neb., from July 22 to Aug. 8, 2012.

These skaters represent TeamSk8 and practice at Rollerama II in Brighton, Skatin? Station II in Canton and Rollhaven in Flint, Michigan. These skaters trained during the entire winter and spring months to prepare for the national championship?s regional qualifier at the GreatLakes Regional Championships held in Romeoville, Illinois (just outside of Chicago) from June 23-27. The Great Lakes Region includes skaters from Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin. The 19 TeamSk8 skaters who have qualified and will be competing in the national championships are:

Evalynn Noll, age 3 ? Junior Precision Team

Jadyn Noll, age 6 ? Junior Precision Team

Cailyn Evans, age 14 ? Junior Precision Team

Valenna Malone, age 14 ? Junior Precision Team

Briahna Kitchen, age 14 ? Junior Precision Team

Devin Decator, age 16 ? Freshman/Sophomore Pairs

Some of these roller sports athletes decided to skate in a variety of categories while others concentrated on only one. Devin and Edward are great at ?picking girls up and putting them down,? so they are good for freestyle pairs. Most of our girls love the glamour of the costumes and unique makeup opportunities, so there are many events to try. The little ones like Evalynn just want to be one of the ?big kids? for a few moments, so skating on a precision team is a great adventure. Regardless of the categories or the reasons they skate, TeamSk8 members and all USA Roller Sports athletes learn body control, concentration, strength, and artistry while developing confidence, self discipline and personal responsibility. It is not often that a kid can do all this and have a little fun, too!

TeamSk8 welcomes skaters of any age and every skill level. Most of these skaters started in rink preschool skating activities, beginner classes or by just having fun at sessions and being selected for recruiting by a coach. After training and testing, skaters have the option of competing in one or more age-and skill-appropriate categories for Singles, Pairs, Figures, Solo Dance, Team Dance, Precision, or Show skating on traditional quad figure skates or inline figure skates. They are judged on content and manner of performance, including the skater?s ability to do identifiable, difficult content items, like jumps, spins, and footwork, while utilizing those movements in an artistic interpretation of accompanying music.

The 2012 USA Roller Sports Skating Championships will be available for viewing live online starting July 15 at the Skater?s Place ? figure events begin on July 22nd:
